It’s been too long now since I’ve checked in…my blogger was “broken” for almost two weeks so took that time to do some fishing out on the west end of the peninsula. My daughter from Eugene, Oregon visited the farm with the mountaineering club she runs down there…they had just finished a hike from the mouth of the Hoh River to La Push then a 5 day-er up into 7 lakes basin. …..My farm manager, jose, and his crew took time out from their long days on the farm to cook me up a fabulous carne asada and rib dinner one day…sure was fabulous with lots of Pacifico cerveza…needless to say, it was a short day….All of the lavender is now harvested and the distiller is put away for another year….whew!…SO nice to get that done!…the seasonal crew are all headed back to school and we are preparing the farm for winter. While I’m still physically here, my mind is down south at my casa in mexico. Hurricane John is roaring down on my little town and it concerns me that there might be damage occurring over the next couple of days…all we can do at this point is keep our fingers crossed…so…off on a bike ride to start my day.

Yesterday found me hunkered down by the still for most of the day…We’ve been distilling the variety “Grosso” lately so the yields are quite good… Crowds of people continue to come to the farm and a lot of my time is spent answering questions about the distillation process…ya gotta love it!…what better job could a guy have?…none that I can think of….So, today I will have my first load going by 9ish and probably will have all the harvested product done by 2pm. It looks like another gorgeous day out there; not a cloud in the sky.

I returned yesterday from my place in Southern Baja…I remember now why I very seldom go down there in August; hot, humid, and wet…so VERY wet…It rained for two days and accumulated 12 inches in that time. My place was literally an island for some time; I couldn’t come or go if I wanted too…luckily I had sufficient water and food to last me….all this time it was around 100 degrees and 90% humidity…yuk!….the GOOD thing about the trip is that I was able to get some building materials on site for my new casa….hopefully, it will be taking shape by the time I get back down there in late October.
